LISCORE

Liscore, a quirky band from Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, recently released their debut, self-titled album. Their original and unique sound immediately caught my attention.

liscore1The songs are short and simple, filled with great riffs, cool melodies and harmonies, and nice transitions. Nothing is overpowering here. The bass lines are dead on, and the guitar is sweet. The sound, sort of  story-teller pop/folk, incorporates funk, jam and world music influences. There are harmonics, great background vocals and interesting guitar solos. The vocals are nice, but the focus remains with the guitar. Most noticeable, is the band’s sense of humor. In “1 Wet Foot“, we hear Corey Small sing, “1 wet foot is 1 foot too many. Duct tape just won’t make your shoes complete. Duct tape only leads to soggy feet.”

The album is a cool, little trip to Liscore’s psyche. Worth listening to. Overall, a fun time, but could use some additional production.
