miron2Toronto hard rockers, Miron,  released ‘Lacrimosa‘ in April 2015. The album, out on Melodic Revolution Records, contains 10 songs that are fueled with blistering guitars, driving rhythm tracks, and wonderfully melodic vocals. The album opens with some very cool choral vocals, reminiscent of progressive rock, and dives headlong into high octane rock. The riffs are amazing, woven through beautiful harmonies, dynamite changes, and way cool effects. Check out the effects on ‘Nightmare‘, and ‘If Heaven Had A Window‘, and the powerful vocals on ‘Sonnet‘.  Favorite tracks ‘Keeping My Hands Clean‘, and ‘Behind Enemy Lines‘, with its eastern influence.

mironThe songs are incredibly well crafted, with changes and transitions that make each  feel as though it could be its own concept album. A wonderfully enjoyable time. This is not just any rock, but a sound that lays somewhere between Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and Van Halen, with a 21st century bite. This is MAYHEM rock.

LOIS LILIENSTEIN-The Final Curtain on The Elephant Show…

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on April 26, 2015 by TheManicBlogger

I was deeply saddened by the news of Lois Lilienstein‘s passing. As 1/3 of Sharon, Lois, & Bram, she was instrumental in entertaining countless children in Canada. Their ‘Elephant Show‘, and live performances were a huge part of my children’s lives. The family went to see them at Kingswood Music Theatre in Toronto, many years ago. They were a big part of my children’s lives, and in turn, their music filled my home, for many, many years. Thank you, Lois.

OLIVIA & THE CREEPY CRAWLIES-Tongue Tied

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 5, 2015 by TheManicBlogger

occ1One year after the debut of their 2014 EP, ‘Charley‘, London, Ontario’s Olivia & The Creepy Crawlies have released the 5 track ‘Tongue Tied‘. While remaining true to the band’s Canadiana/folk sound, this latest album contains more pop sensibilities than I had anticipated. The melodies are wonderfully cool, with harmonies that seem to come out of nowhere, and vocal tracks that generally blew me away. Olivia Borkosky can sing!  The songs contain nice changes, and arrangements that include violin, electric mandolin, glockenspiel, autoharp, harmonica, and of course, ukulele. There is even hand clapping on “Supervillain“. The resulting sound is magical! There is so much going on here, you need to listen several times to get it all.

occ‘Tongue Tied’ is filled with wonderfully original songs, that demonstrate a unique approach to creating music as evident in the resulting sound. It is entertaining and uplifting, with wonderfully simple, yet cleverly meaningful lyrics. A wonderful album, that will make you smile. Buy it! Listen to it! Love it!
