My friend, Anne Leighton, probably the hardest working publicist in the music business, was kind enough to lead me to ‘Soul Ballads‘, a new release, of sorts, by David Clayton-Thomas. I have always been a fan of Clayton-Thomas, since his days with Blood, Sweat & Tears. In fact, I saw dctthem  performing at the Toronto Pop Festival in 1969.

I was unsure of what to expect from this album, 12 covers of classic rhythm & blues. After a listen or 2, I was pleasantly amazed. The arrangements are incredible, loaded with horns and strings, and the vocals, well, this man can still sing. A wonderfully soulful time. My favorite tracks: ‘Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay‘, ‘When A Man Loves A Woman‘, and ‘People Get Ready‘. Thank you Anne. Thank you David.
