seapony1The Seattle based band, Seapony, recently released their latest album, ‘A Vision‘. A wonderfully cool mix of incredibly melodic acoustic and, exciting electric guitar tracks. The riffs rock, and the vocals are insanely great. The songs are well seapony2written, with terrific melodies, nice changes, and some dynamite production values, and effects. I have listened several times, and with each listen, well, it just gets better. Pay particular attention to ‘Couldn’t Be‘, ‘Go Nowhere‘, ‘In Heaven‘, and ‘A Vision‘.

A Vision is a wonderfully sane escape. A fun time with some way cool dream-surf-pop songs. This is music that soothes the soul and enlightens the spirit. Check it out here, and then order a few copies. http://seapony.bandcamp.com/album/a-vision . Definitely one for the collection.

MEEKO CHEECH-Miss Bolivia

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 24, 2015 by TheManicBlogger

meeko2Another wonderfully talented Toronto band, Meeko Cheech released the 6 track Miss Bolivia, in June 2015. Incredibly diverse, the album incorporates several music styles, delivering an eclectic, and somewhat eccentric sound, that works. The songs are filled with wonderful riffs, moody keys, cool effects, dynamite changes, and brooding vocals. The trumpet and organ are wonderful additions, and the background vocals are perfectly sublimemeeko1. This is dark pop, with an weirdly eerie vibe. Mood altering, and mind blowing. Wonderfully original, with a dramatic, full sound that attaches itself to every brain cell. An insanely good time! Something you definitely must check out, and add to your collection. Stream Miss Bolivia here:  http://meekocheech.bandcamp.com/  and then purchase 1 for yourself, and get 1 for a friend.  Favorite tracks: ‘Miss Bolivia‘, ‘Shock Unit‘.

THE COOL WHIPS-Goodies

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 19, 2015 by TheManicBlogger

I don’t know how I missed this until now. The Pacific Northwest has produced its fair share of incredible Indie Music, but I seem to have missed Portland, Oregon’s The Cool Whips. The release of their 12 track album ‘Goodies‘ in November 2014, may have come to me late, but this wonderful blend of 1960’s Brit pop and American power pop will not soon be forgotten.

the cool whips2The album kicks off with ‘Tickle Me With A Feather Duster‘, with a dynamite 60s beach/surf melody, great harmonies, and lyric like “come on babe don’t filibuster, don’t be such a little tease, tickle me with a feather duster, please”, and a few “yeah, yeah, yeah”s for good measure. ‘Move Over Aphrodite‘ delivers a great bridge, some way cool reverb, and  wonderful farfisa. With a great hook, and wonderfully pop hand clapping, ‘On The Seesaw‘ has a way cool Frankie & Annette, Beach Blanket thing going on. ‘She Did A Number On Me‘, offers a great melody, nice harmonies, a cool riff, and wonderful keys. ‘A Complicated Man‘ gives a terrific bridge, with some really sweet guitar, which is highlighted again in ‘Lost In The Summertime‘. The keys in ‘Where Can That Girl Be?‘ are the cool whips3reminiscent of Manfred Mann, as it highlights the way cool changes, and killer bridge. ‘A Vague Sense Of Dissatisfaction‘ delivers some wonderful harmonies, while ‘Turpentine‘ offers a great guitar solo, and more tongue in cheek lyric with “she tells me what to do. I think I like it too”.  The guitar rocks in ‘The Man I Never Was‘, and once again, the keys are incredible. ‘Pink Lemonade‘, offers wonderful harmonies, an exceptional melody, and a great hook. The riff is way cool, and I dig the Beatleseque vocals. The final track, ‘Boom-Shang-A-Lang‘, throws in some dynamite hand clapping to an unforgettable chorus, and hook. The keys are great, the guitar sweet. A perfect song to close out the album. Favorite tracks: ‘Tickle Me With A Feather Duster’, ‘Pink Lemonade’, and ‘Boom-Shang-A-Lang’.

the cool whips1‘Goodies’ is a wonderfully fun time. 12 amazing songs with unforgettable melodies, sweet harmonies, and addictive hooks. Add to all that great changes, and farfisa, and you get a  perfectly pop album! Amazingly cool!  I like this band. I like the sound. I like the album. Despite being released at the end of 2014, we just have to bend the rules and include it in the I Can’t Believe My Earz Indie Album Of The Year for 2015. It is just that good! Check it out for yourself: https://thecoolwhips.bandcamp.com/ and then buy 1 or 2. Definitely a must have album.

BURNOUTS

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 14, 2015 by TheManicBlogger

the burnoutsFrom Chatham-KentOntario, hippie-punksters BurnOuts released a wonderfully addictive Ep in May, 2015, as a follow up to their 2012 album, ‘Pause For The Cause’.  Simply titled The BurnOuts EP, the 7 tracks are wonderfully traditional punk, with nuances of pop throughout. The songs are raw and simple, with cool riffs and solos, wonderful changes, and sweet melodies. The drums and bass are consistently heavy, and the use of keys on “New Days Old Faults” is a wonderful addition. Favorite tracks: “Let Her Go“, with its Rockabilly vibe, and “Freedom Radio” which incorporates some nice harmonies. Raw and simple, The Burnouts EP is an album you should check out. Punk with more sensitivity, and less anarchy.   http://theburnoutsband.bandcamp.com/album/the-burnouts-e-p

MEAN CREEK-Best of Mean Creek

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 9, 2015 by TheManicBlogger

meancreekIf what I read is in fact true, I am very sad to hear that Mean Creek has disbanded. The Boston rockers have released a wonderful compilation album recapping an incredibly prolific career that spanned 10 years. A sort of Mean Creek swan song! Released in June 2015, Best of Mean Creek contains 15 tracks, 2 which have never been released, and the rest taken from albums I have been listening to for years. If you haven’t heard Mean Creek before, this is a must have album for your collection. Wonderfully rock, with a 1980s New Wave vibe, mean creeklike Springsteen meets Talking Heads! Insanely good songs, with wonderful riffs, catchy melodies, clever lyrics, and beautifully orchestrated harmonies. I heard organ, fuzz bass, mandolin, tremolo, and some incredible changes. Favorite tracks include ‘Anxiety Girl‘, ‘Young & Wild‘, ‘My Madeline‘, and ‘Do You Know?‘. Do yourself a favor and at least stream the album. You can purchase it at a “name your price” offer, with all proceeds being donated to the Mother Emanuel Hope Fund for the families & victims. A great band. A dynamite album. A wonderful cause. No way you can go wrong. Despite being a compilation, may just be on the short list of the I Can’t Believe My Earz Album of The Year for 2015.
