FRACTAL REVERB-Quattro

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 27, 2017 by TheManicBlogger

It’s been 3 years since the release of ‘How To Overcome The Ego Mind‘, and frankly, it was well worth the wait. Fractal Reverb‘s new release, ‘Quattro‘ showcases the Italian band’s coming of age. The 4 tracks are filled with exciting riffs, powerful drums, and insanely good bass lines. The band has added a 2nd guitarist, giving the album a wonderfully full sound. The songs are exquisitely arranged, with beautiful melodies and flawless changes, emphasizing the maturation of the band’s talents as musicians & songwriters. The vocals are entirely in Italian, and while I do not understand the words, their feeling is driven home by Carolina Locateli‘s emotionally charged voice. Progressive Grunge-Rock at its best. A wonderful listen. Quattro is set for release September 22/17, and in the meantime, check out the band’s website and Facebook page for any notices, and sneak previews.

MARINOL NATION-hell’s ditch

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 23, 2017 by TheManicBlogger

The latest album from Sarnia’s Marinol Nation, is about to be released. I had the opportunity for a pre-release listen, and I am impressed. ‘Hell’s Ditch’ flows with rock, blues, country, and punk vibes, across themes of life after death, and heaven and hell, told as only Eli Martin could tell it. There are wonderful melodies, highlighted by sweet harmonies, wonderful guitar, as well as mandolin, saxophone, and lap steel guitar. The changes and transitions are exceptional, (check out the transition from “Hell’s Ditch part 2 ” to “Hell’s Ditch part 3“), and the arrangements give the album a theatrical rock musical feel. The album is edgy and raw, with insanely good riffs and solos, and some dynamite bass lines. There is no pretense here, just the band doing their thing. And it is exceptionally good. Favorite tracks include “Serenade“, a wonderfully melodic track, with a full sound, and some dynamite steel guitar; “Song 4 Amy“, a terrific rock track, filled with cool riffs and solos; and “Jesus In A Jar“, a rock and roll tune, that incorporates a punk edge, some cool harmonies, and hand clapping. An all around great time. The album is set for release this summer, on the band’s own Musicwhore Records label, so keep checking the release date on the bands page, and grab yourself a few copies. Share them with your friends. Have a party. Turn up the volume to number 11.

TRIO OF MADNESS-Lost Time

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 1, 2017 by TheManicBlogger

Well, it finally happened. After much anticipation, Trio Of Madness, the Somerville, New Jersey band, released Lost Time in March, 2017. Filled with 14 wonderfully looney tunes, the trio delivers a blend of psychedelic, surf, and progressive rock sounds, which merge into what can only be called “alien rock”. The album conjures up memories of my old arena rock days, with shades of King Crimson and Yes peering out from behind the wonderful melodies. There are different musical themes woven into songs by exciting changes and transitions. The album is guitar-centric, yet the rhythm section is a standout. Nick Charles’ solos and riffs deliver wonderful waves of melody, while Mike Wojik and Liz Gonzalez drive the music. There are cool effects, and I am certain I heard a bicycle horn. ‘Roswell‘ delivers a surf vibe which morphs into a sound that can best be described as The B-52s meet King Crimson, while ‘Birthquake‘ offers a psych’d out, funky, beach blanket bingo feel. At times it seems that the album is a free for all jam, but the music is brilliantly executed. This is an entertaining trip which, one can only hope, brings with it a safe return. And while the long term effects of listening to Trio Of Madness are, as of yet unknown, this is an insanely good time. Favorite tracks: ‘Lost Time‘; ‘Spaceships‘; ‘Showering At The Bates Motel‘;  ‘Mutant Song‘, with guest vocals by Geverend Dee. You really need to hear this. Play it loud, and remember to keep your eyes on the skies! You can listen and purchase Lost Time here.

THE WHIFFS-Take A Whiff

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 22, 2017 by TheManicBlogger

I recently had the opportunity to listen to ‘Take A Whiff‘,  the new release from Kansas City, MO.’s, The Whiffs. The power-pop/rock band showcases their knack for writing wonderful ‘pop’ songs, filled with memorable melodies and nice harmonies, nestled in 2-3 minutes of pop heaven. There are cool guitar riffs and solos, catchy hooks, and nice changes. At times, the album feels like a throwback to an era of fast cars and jukeboxes, yet the sound  is timeless. This is simple, well written music, with a raw edge. And we like it.  A fun time; a 60’s dance party that you’ll want to invite all of your friends to. Definitely worth  getting up to take a whiff. Favorite tracks: “Backseat“, “Out Of Mind“, “I Need You Here“.

Check it out for yourself here, and get yourself a copy.

CLARA ENGEL-Songs For Leonora Carrington

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 21, 2017 by TheManicBlogger

The new release from Clara Engel, is wonderfully artful. The Toronto singer/songwriter’s ‘Songs For Leonora Carrington‘ is dark and introspective alternative art-rock, that sounds like musical poetry. The 5 tracks are beautifully melodic, with powerful themes that tug at your emotions. There is pump organ, flute, and theremin layered over some simple, yet very cool guitar and vocal tracks. The choir used in ‘Anubeth’s Song‘, is heavenly, while the reverb on ‘Microgods Of All The Subatomic Worlds‘ helps to create a dynamite surreal vibe.

I have listened to most of Clara Engel’s  music, and she seems to have a habit of diving headfirst into my psyche, and triggering my emotions. Not that I’m complaining. ‘Songs For Leonora Carrington’ is pure poetry. Wonderfully emotive, with melodies that soothe and caress the soul. You can stream & purchase your copy here.

I SEE ANGELS-Nausea

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on June 17, 2017 by TheManicBlogger

I’m not sure how I missed the August 2016 release of this 3 track ep from Manchester, UK based I See Angels. The songs are brilliantly melodic, playing in my head long after listening, with cool hooks, and seamless changes. There is a wonderful 1980’s art rock vibe going on, reminiscent of The Psychedelic Furs. This pop-emo rock band, delivers way cool guitar, dynamite keyboards, clever arrangements, and perfectly ethereal vocal tracks. An insanely great listen, that will have you floating along the waves of melodious dreams. Favorite track: ‘Nausea‘. You can stream and purchase at a ‘name your price’ option here.
