rotten mangos3The Rotten Mangos, a way cool band from Austin, Texas, released their self titled EP in November, 2014. Luckily I found it. The album is, well, Popedelic!

The opening track, ‘Tent Rentals‘ offers a dynamite vocal track with way cool effects, a great bass line, and a sweet melody. ‘Pacify Your Mind‘ has exceptional changes, and a wonderful riff, while ‘Krishna’s Theme‘ delivers a brilliant twang from a steel guitar, great rotten mangos4backing vocals, and a cool guitar solo. The insanely good percussion on ‘Jools Share‘ is complimented by cool harmonies, a great bridge, and some wonderful effects while ‘I Left My Room‘ gives up cool vocals and changes. My favorite track, ‘Moose Knuckles‘, is simply a fantastic pop song. With a great melody, this up tempo track offers some great changes, sweet backing vocals, and a dynamite riff. Add to this a wonderful tempo change, and some cool organ, and you have The Rotten Mangos!

The psychedelic pop sound of this EP is a wonderful treat. Sort of the `1960’s meets the 21st Century. The songs are wonderful, and the instrumentation is perfect. An excellent all day listening album. Have a listen for yourself here, and grab a copy. One of those name your price downloads. Enjoy the trip!

HARBOUR-Grade School Summer

harbour3During one of my sojourns into music cyber space, I encountered Harbour, a Toronto band who released their 6 track album, ‘Grade School Summer‘, on November 4, 2014.

The album offers wonderfully exciting drumming, and some way cool guitar riffs and solos. The songs are insanely good, Harbour1with pop melodies, and dynamite harmonies. The changes and vocals rock. The instrumentation and arrangements are simple and sweet. These guys know how to write, and how to play. A great pop album, with the urgency of punk, that will keep your attention from beginning to end. Very cool.  A refreshingly energetic and fun release, that at times, reminds me of The Northern Pikes. I like this. I like this a lot! Pay particular attention to “So Long”  and “Grade School Summer“. Definitely one for the collection & the car. You can stream and purchase Grade School Summer here:  http://harbourontario.bandcamp.com/   You can catch Harbour live on Nov 22/14, at Toronto’s Velvet Underground at a CD Release party. In the meantime, check out the official video for “Grade School Summer”.

CRAB BUBBLES-“Fool For Your Love”

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 21, 2014 by TheManicBlogger

I was fortunate to receive an advance listen to the new single by Crab Bubbles. Written by Gar Francis, “Fool For Your Love” is scheduled for a November 2014 release on New Jersey Indie label, Bongo Boy Records.

unnamedThe song has a wonderful 1960’s feel, a sort of Paul Revere & The Raiders thing going on, with its dynamite pop melody, and way cool psychedelic effects. There are great riffs, a terrific guitar solo, and a fabulous bridge. Dale Lee Richards‘ vocals are  incredibly powerful, as they sail along with some very cool harmonies. Dynamite song. Definitely one to sing along with. I could go on and on, but I think you should just go check it out for yourselves. And then come November, get yourself a copy or 2. A 1960’s classic merged with 1980’s garage.I don’t believe it gets much better than this!!  I hope there is a Crab Bubbles album!
