Everybody and their Aunt Mildred seems to have a record label these days. Wendy Ferguson, manager, promoter and resident goddess of New Jersey’s live music scene has kick started her own label, Dead Walker Records with the release of ‘Hot Mess’, Jersey garage band, The Easy Outs latest release.

The independently owned east coast label is on a mission to provide their artists global digital distribution. Ferguson states that the label has plans to expand internationally, and will be hosting major events throughout the East Coast and surrounding regions, seeking to offer the highest caliber in live music. The Easy Outs-‘Hot Mess’

 

With the release of The Easy Outs new album, Hot Mess, on Dead Walker Records, the band has secured their spot in the annals of legendary Jersey garage bands. With a kick ass Jersey rock beat, this album adds many layers that bring the in your face rock sound to new heights and recreates the band’s raw energy on a studio recording.  ‘Hot Mess‘ is a powerful album from a rock solid band, with wonderful 1960s harmonies, exceptional melodies and unforgettable hooks that are layered over dynamite guitar riffs and solos, great vocal tracks, and a way cool rhythm section. There are blues, power-pop, and 1970s California vibes sprinkled throughout, but the kick ass Jersey garage comes rockin’ through. This is The Easy Outs, and they have delivered one of the best albums I have heard in a long time. Beautifully written, arranged and produced. Definitely one for the collection, and a contender for Indie Album of The Year. Back in the studio, The Easy Outs continue to work on a new album. Set for release in late 2016 or early 2017, the quintessential New Jersey garage rockers are busy laying down tracks for a uniquely original album. Their sound, influenced by the likes of The Stooges, The New York Dolls, and The Ramones, has them receiving international radio play, and a deluge of interview requests. GET TO KNOW THE EASY OUTS….

Since the release of their 2015 album, Desolate Row, New Jersey garage rockers, The Easy Outs, have been making quite a name for themselves. And rightfully so. With tracks that breathe life back into rock ‘n’ roll, and guest appearances on the album by the likes of Kurt Reil (The Grip Weeds), Dave DeSantos (The Grip Weeds, Secret Syde), and Kenny Aaronson (Joan Jett, New York Dolls, Derringer), the band has earned some credibility. Forming in 2008, The Easy Outs released a self titled debut album in 2009, to some critical acclaim. In 2010, their single ‘Come On Come On’ was released, and appeared on ESPN NASCAR.  Desolate Row has been receiving regular airplay across the United States, Canada, and The Easy Out virus has most recently spread to Europe. This could very well become a world wide pandemic! One listen, and you will catch it! Currently the band has returned to the studio, recording tracks for their next album, to be released in 2017.

 

And so, after fielding requests for information about the band, and its members, it is time to get to know The Easy Outs.

 

BRUCE FERGUSON—-Vocals

The singer/songwriter was born in New Jersey, with Rock ‘n’ Roll coursing through his veins, in 4/4 time. Bruce began his music career in 1986, with the band The Garden Insane. In 2001, he formed Trench, who released 2 albums to some critical acclaim. He appeared in the 2007 blockbuster film, Fans Anonymous, and was the vocalist for the New Jersey super group, The Satisfactors, with Kenny Aaronson, and Kurt Reil. The Satisfactors released an album in 2014. Bruce plans on releasing a solo project sometime in the future.

 

JOHN DIVUOLO——-Bass/Backing Vocals

Another Jersey native, John was born into a musical family: His mother was a classically trained pianist, and his father, an A-Capella singer. John has been involved in the Jersey Shore cover band scene since 2001, and has played in several bands including The Cheap & Easy Band, The Stop Hear Band, Lode, and Slow Kids At Play. John joined The Easy Outs in 2012.

 

PAUL LAMBERT——–Drums

Paul is a native of Brooklyn, New York, the son of a professional trumpet player, and began playing drums at age 15. His straight forward, hard hitting style allows him to lay down a rock solid rhythmic foundation for The Easy Outs. Who are we to argue?

 

MIKE DEPASQUALE—-Guitar

Mike is Jersey born and bred, and began playing in bands while he was in High School. While playing covers, Mike secretly desired to play original music. A call from The Easy Outs made his dream come true, and the rest, well, is history.

 

STEVE DEVITO———-Guitar

Another son of New Jersey, Steve began his venture into music by singing in church choirs while in elementary school. At age 18, Steve joined The Secret Syde, whose album Hidden Secrets received airplay on several college radio stations. Averaging over 100 live performances per year, Steve has shared the stage with Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi), Rick Danko (The Band), and Toy Caldwell (The Marshall Turker Band). He joined The Easy Outs in 2011.

INDIE ALBUM OF THE YEAR-2015

10. The Blank Tapes -‘Geodesic Dome Piece‘

I could still listen to this for days on end. The songs make me feel like I did in 1969. The album is wonderfully arranged and produced. The vocals are wonderful, and the lyrics, sardonic and witty. There is an acoustic demo version of “Do You Wanna Get High” as a bonus, and “To Your Dome Piece” is worth a few listens just for the lyrical phrasing.. This is one of those must have albums. The kind that you have to have in your collection, just because it was done. Bizarro-garage-psychedelic-stoner-surf-pop at its best.

 

 

9.  Alyeus – ‘And From The Sky We Fall‘

And From The Sky We Fall is a wonderful ride. Filled with cool effects, eclectic lyrics, acoustic guitar, and I am almost certain there is an electric drill in use here!! The guitar and synthesizer collaboration is exceptional, and I thoroughly enjoyed the underlying spoken word dubbed in. The album is wonderfully written. Wonderfully executed. Wonderfully produced. This is one cool concept album. Do yourself a favor, and check it out, Listen to it in its entirety in one sitting. It is well worth it.

 

8. The Quiet Things – ‘The Fall‘

I am still liking this album. The vocals are wonderful, and the songs are exceptional. Incredibly original music, with the ability to create mood. The songs are wonderfully original, unique, and way cool. From beginning to end, it will have you tapping your feet, and trying to sing along. It gets inside you, and you just can’t get it out! Not a bad thing though, since The Fall is insanely good!  Definitely a must have album.

 

 

7.  Fractal Reverb – ‘Songs To Overcome The Ego Mind‘

Songs To Overcome The Ego Mind is an incredible journey. Progressive Psychedelic Rock, a sort of fusion of Yes, King Crimson, and Rush. The sound is wonderfully full, and complex, incorporating different orchestral themes within each track. A progressive free for all that is perfectly executed, and often unexpected. The album drives forward, taking you places that you never imagined existed. A brilliant piece of work! This is the kind of album you put on and just let it play, allowing the music to envelop you, and hold you within it. An epic sound. An epic album. Certainly one of the most incredible collections of music I have heard in a long time.

 

6.  Ivory Hours – ‘Morning Light‘

The songs are insanely good, filled with pop melodies, great harmonies, and wonderful arrangements. The lyrics tell stories, and the choruses are insanely good. Pure pop. With a elements of rock, and blues. The vibe is dynamite. Entertaining & exciting..An incredibly wonderful listen! Amazingly pop, with bass and drums providing the perfect backdrop to exceptional melodies. The album is just plain wonderful, providing way cool pop melodies with exceptional arrangements. Go out and get 1. Or 2. It is that good.

 

5.  Andrew Waite & The Firm – ‘Burning Through The Night‘

Burning Through The Night is wonderfully soothing & melodic. A return to the singer-songwriter days, with songs filled with heartfelt stories that resonate with me. The vocals are unique, and I dig the raspiness in Andrew Waite’s voice. The arrangements rock, and the horns & organ are a delightful. Andrew Waite & The Firm could very well be the next Blue Rodeo!! A band to watch. A band to listen to!! The album is a wonderfully satisfying journey that I plan on taking regularly. I suspect that I will have to make an endless loop as I can’t see myself getting tired of this.

 

4. The Cool Whips – ‘Goodies‘

‘Goodies’ is a wonderfully fun time. 12 amazing songs with unforgettable melodies, sweet harmonies, and addictive hooks. Add to all that great changes, and farfisa, and you get a  perfectly pop album! Amazingly cool!  I like this band. I like the sound. I like the album. It is  good!  Definitely a must have album.

 

 

3.  Nadine Shah – ‘Fast Food‘

Nadine Shah has a style all of her own. Unforgettable and unmistakable! Beautiful & sublime. The songs are wonderfully written, and have been driving some to move uncontrollably. I dig this album. It is wonderfully eclectic. It is alternative. Alternative cool. Alternative wonderful. Get it today!

 

 

2.  The Turnback – ‘Are We There Yet?‘

Are We There Yet is way cool Power Pop. I seem to be involved in a love affair with this album, It makes me happy, and asks for nothing in return. It has me singing around the house. The songs are exceptional, with great melodies, wonderful harmonies, dynamite bridges & choruses, and unforgettable hooks. The Turnback have delivered an incredibly great album, that I am referring to as Power Pop of the new millennium! The production is wonderful. There is a sweet balance here, with nothing over the top.  It is pure power pop perfection!!  Get a dozen or so copies. Give them to your family and friends. Or keep them all for yourself. I would. And if they ever hold a parade for this release, I will be there, front and centre, with a truckload of ticker tape.

BONGO BOY TV-Indie Music From Around The World Episode 1031

 

Another episode of Bongo Boy TV’s Indie Music From Around The World is here. Another great collection of videos that rock.

Radio Drive, featuring Kevin Gullickson are back for another week with ‘A Taste Of Heaven‘.  This band from The United States song combines a strong melody, sweet riffs and a 1980’s feel. Add to that some great visuals, and you have one dynamite video. http://www.radio-drive.com/ A German entry, Hella Donna, featuring None Like Joshua (NLJ), the American rapper, offer ‘Gimme Lights, Camera, Action‘. An interesting fusion of elctro-pop and hip hop  showcases this woman’s great voice, and some wonderful video techniques. http://www.helladonna.com/  An English entry, ‘Hard Heart‘ from Sharp Practise, is a wonderful blues song, with a video appropriately shot in black & white. There are way cool special effects, nice transitions, and some cool keyboards. http://www.sharppractise.com/  Another American entry, Rob Rise On Belief, gives us ‘The Chosen One‘, is an amazingly interesting video. There is acoustic guitar, and dynamite vocals, that kicks into a way cool rock tune, with great guitar and wonderful harmonies. Amazing vocals, great piano, and some very cool synthesized horns, filmed in black & white. The minimal instrumentation keeps the focus on this woman’s voice, as it should be. http://www.saydahzufilms.com/  Chand K Nova, delivers ‘Solar Bliss‘ all the way from England. MUST HAVE INDIE SONGS FOR YOUR SUMMER PLAYLIST

It’s summer. So instead of  our usual Indie album picks for June, the staff at I Can’t Believe My Earz has come up with a list of songs that are a must for your summer music playlist. Very cool.

 

XPRIME– ‘Early To The Sun’        

 With harmonies  that rival The Beach Boys, and melody lines that just don’t quite,  this song does everything right. A foot tapping, hand clapping, sing along song if ever there was one.

 

 

 

GIGI-‘Put Your Freakin Hands Up‘

This song delivers an incredible rhythm, and an insanely infectious hook. Destined to be playing in your head for a long while. In the meantime, it will have you dancing in the streets.

 

 

 

 

THE MINNOWS-‘Time Flies’

Amazing track that more that stands the test of time. Cool harmonies, a wonderful melody, and a great story. The keyboards are a standout. This is my ‘have a beer or 2 and sit by the pool’ song.

SEAPONY-‘What You Wanted’

A way cool 60’s beat, terrific riff, great changes, and sweet vocals make this a must have summer track. The harmonies are wonderful, and the melody will have you singing and dancing up and down  the beach.

 

 

 

 

THE AFTER HOURS-‘Going To The Go-Go’

A terrific rock song with great harmonies, wonderful guitar licks, and some way cool harmonica. Go on and put the top down and crank this one up..way loud.

Wonderful 1960’s melody, with cool guitar riffs, great changes, and sweet harmonies.  A perfectly wonderful pop song that will make you feel like London, 1965.

THE SATISFACTORS-Johnny Commando

When Bongo Boy Records let me know that they were releasing a single from The Satisfactors as a tribute to Johnny Ramone, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was always a fan of The Ramones. “I Wanna Be Sedated” and “Rock & Roll High School” are still active on my playlists. “Johnny Commando“, set for release on March 10/14 is a wonderful ride back to New York City’s 1970’s punk heyday. Bruce Ferguson ( The Easy Outs) delivers kick ass vocals, with inflections and nuances that remind me of Joey Ramone. The guitar is simple, yet driving, with a dynamite riff and solo. The chorus is fabulous, driving me to rock and bop as I listened. The harmonies are perfectly punk, the transitions amazing, and the hook kills. Produced by Kurt Reil (The Gripweeds) and Jersey’s godfather of garage, Gar Francis, what else should I have expected? This song is punk in all its glory. Johnny Ramone would be impressed. Now I am going to have another listen. Get your hands on your own copy as soon as you can. “Hey Ho, Johnny Commando”!
